Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 31, 2026
This policy explains, in plain language, what data of yours Selah keeps, what for, who it's shared with, and how you can delete it. The data controller is Johandra Reyes (an individual), based in London, United Kingdom, who you can write to at hola@selahapp.uk. Selah processes your data under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and also respects the rights granted by the law of your own country.
What data we collect
When you create your account: your email address and, if you write it during onboarding, your name (only to greet you and personalize your moment).
When you use the app:
- Your progress: which moments you completed, your streak, and the dates.
- The reflections and gratitude notes you choose to write and save.
- The verses and chapters you bookmark or save.
- Your conversations with "Light" (the AI companion), so the chat is still there the next time you open the app.
- The prayer requests you post in "Women who support each other" and the requests you choose to pray for.
- Your preferences, like whether you want the daily reminder and your time zone (to send it at your local time).
- If you turn on phone notifications: a technical identifier from your browser that lets us send them. It does not include your phone number. It's deleted as soon as you turn the reminder off or revoke the permission.
Automatically, to understand how the app is used: an anonymous session identifier (stored in your browser's local storage, not an advertising tracking cookie), which screens you visit and what actions you take within Selah, the source of your first click if you arrived from a campaign link, and technical errors so we can fix them.
What we do NOT collect: your location, your date of birth, your phone number, or your card details. Payment data is handled directly by Hotmart — Selah never sees or stores it.
Sensitive data: an important notice
Selah is a Christian devotional content app. Because of that, using it can reveal your religious belief, which several laws around the world (such as Brazil's LGPD) consider "sensitive data."
You might also mention health, family, or emotional topics in your conversations with Light or your prayer requests. We handle all of that with special care: your reflections and your chats with Light are private (only you see them), and prayer requests are anonymous by default — you decide if you want to sign them with your name.
Please do not write to Light or post information such as passwords, card numbers, identity documents, or confidential medical data.
What we use your data for
- To give you the service: your daily moment, your history, the chat with Light, the prayer wall, and the audio.
- To improve the product, by looking at usage in an aggregated way (how many people complete onboarding, etc.).
- To contact you about your account: sending you access, notifying you before a charge, and answering your support requests.
- To send you the daily reminder (notification and email) only if you turn it on. You can turn it off anytime in Settings.
We don't sell your data. We don't show advertising. We don't use your data to profile you for third-party commercial purposes.
Who it's shared with (processors that handle data on our behalf)
To function, Selah relies on these services. Each one only receives the data it needs for its job:
- Supabase (database hosted in the European Union — Paris, France) — database, accounts, and authentication.
- Vercel (USA) — hosting for the app.
- Anthropic (USA) — processes your messages with "Light" to generate its responses.
- OpenAI (USA) — converts prayer texts to voice when you choose to listen to them.
- Hotmart (Brazil / global) — processes payments and the subscription.
- Resend (USA) — sends the app's emails (access, notices).
- Cloudflare (global) — routes email for the selahapp.uk domain.
We don't use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any third-party advertising or tracking tool.
International data transfer
Your account and content are stored in the European Union (Supabase, France). Some providers are based in the United States: in particular, the text you write to "Light" and the prayer texts you choose to listen to are processed on Anthropic's and OpenAI's servers in the USA, under those providers' terms. Hotmart processes payments from Brazil.
Where the provider allows it, we configure them to not use your data to train their AI models. By accepting this policy and using Light, you consent to that transfer.
How long we keep your data
Your content (progress, reflections, chats, requests) is kept for as long as your account exists. Technical usage and AI-cost logs are kept without identifying you and are purged periodically. When you delete your account, all your personal content is removed.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and your own country's data protection law (LGPD in Brazil, Law 1581 of 2012 in Colombia, LFPDPPP in Mexico, and similar laws), you can access your data, correct it, delete it, object to certain processing, restrict processing, and request its portability. You can also withdraw your consent at any time (this doesn't affect processing done before the withdrawal).
- Delete your account and all your data: go to Settings → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate. (Note: this does not cancel your Hotmart subscription — cancel that there first.)
- Any other request: write to us at hola@selahapp.uk from your account's email. We respond within the timeframes required by law (up to 1 month under the UK GDPR).
If you believe we are not handling your data correctly, you can file a complaint with la Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) del Reino Unido (ico.org.uk) or with your own country's data protection authority.
Legal basis for processing
We process your data based on your consent — which you give explicitly the first time you enter the app, by accepting this policy and the Terms — and on the performance of the subscription contract. Explicit consent for sensitive data (such as your religious belief) and for the international transfer to the AI services is part of that acceptance.
Minors
Selah is for people 18 years and older. It is not directed at minors and we do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has given us data, please write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change something important, we update the "last updated" date above and notify you by email before the change takes effect, if you have an active account.
